Review: Noirmageddon - A Mark Anvil Thriller (2011)

Writer: Keith Zahn
Director: Tom Berdinski
Starring: Jeff Bromley, Laurie Johnson, with special appearances by Roxsy Tyler, Marlena Midnight and more.

Mark Anvil is a private eye. And when he finds an attractive blonde running down the middle of the street he has no idea that he will be pulled into a world-spanning...no, GALAXY spanning, misadventure full of intrigue, babes in leather or trench coats, bible verses, vampire landlords and someone chuckling over the word "spermia".

If you're familiar with his past works (The Italian Zombie Movie and The Giant Rubber Monster Movie) then you know that Berdinski has a great unique sense of humor, a wealth of references and can play a catchy tune on the piano. Trust me. You'll find yourself whistling the tune from Noirmageddon. I do.

And with Laurie Johnson and Jeff Bromley, as well as a stable of actors including the lovely Roxsy Tyler and Marlena Midnight and the cryptic Sigmund Zoid, whom he's worked with in past, he's again created a great fun romp through the world of his imagination. As Anvil works his way across the country in search of answers we get homages to Star Trek, Jaws, The Human Centipede (in what I would have called a human centauripede) as well as inside references to his past works.

And we get to see the lovely Laurie Johnson in leather. RAWR! I'd fight a shark barehanded to see that.

This film isn't available at the time of this writing, but it will be soon. So be sure to check back in for screening and release dates. Because, on the Berdinski Scale, the most insular rating scale in podcasting since we don't let the fact that it's named for Tom Berdinski influence us, where we rate things either buy it, borrow it or don't bother, "Noirmageddon" gets an absolute buy for fans of the Cult Of Moi And Vous (or are we members?) (and where are my purple sneakers anyway?) and at minimum a borrow for others, who will agree with me (join us) that this is a fun romp through the waters of Michigan and into our hearts...

...and our spleens...

...and I think that's a heart over there...

RUN! SHARK!
