Listen Up, Philip (2014) - Eureka Announces UK Bluray And DVD Release

[For immediate release] Eureka Entertainment to release LISTEN UP PHILIP, the critically acclaimed comedy drama starring Jason Schwartzman, Elisabeth Moss & Jonathan Pryce in a Dual Format (Blu-ray & DVD edition) in the UK on 27 July 2015.

Combining intellectual ambition with a singular comic sensibility, the third feature film by writer-director Alex Ross Perry marked a defining moment for the American independent cinema of the 2010s. As with his previous features Impolex and The Color Wheel, the blackly hilarious Listen Up Philip is distinguished as much by its literary pedigree as by its fine attunement to atmosphere, sense of place, and, enabled by the camerawork of Sean Price Williams, the texture of the image.

Jason Schwartzman, in one of his most accomplished roles since such Wes Anderson collaborations as Rushmore and The Darjeeling Limited, achieves the height of comic verbal violence as the novelist Philip Lewis Friedman who, having received his first taste of literary acclaim, embarks upon the publicity campaign for his soon-to-be-published second novel, Obidant. The attention of his literary hero Ike Zimmerman (played by the first-rate Jonathan Pryce), a major novelist some decades his elder, leads to an open invitation to abscond from Brooklyn and work from Zimmerman’s small-town home upstate. And so the stage is set for all-out warfare between Philip’s seemingly irrepressible ego and the emotionality of his talented photographer girlfriend Ashley who, in a brilliant performance by Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss, exhibits the kind of dynamism that could dull Philip's edge for good.

Put into relief by a cast including Krysten Ritter, Joséphine de La Baume, Keith Poulson, Kate Lyn Sheil, and Dree Hemingway, Schwartzman-as-Friedman embodies what must be one of the most charmingly loathsome or most diabolically winning personalities in recent films. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present Listen Up Philip, the picture Manohla Dargis of The New York Times called "a masterwork about what it is to live for love and not just the self,” in its UK debut on Blu-ray and DVD.

Listen Up Philip is screening in cinemas now, and available On Demand www.listenupphilip.co.uk

Stalag 17 (1953) - Eureka! Announced Bluray Release

[For immediate release] Eureka Entertainment to release Billy Wilder’s STALAG 17, the acclaimed World War II comedy drama of spies and sabotage, honour and bravery, on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK on 27 July 2015.

Billy Wilder followed up his brilliant Ace in the Hole with this darkly comic adaptation of Donald Bevan’s and Edmund Trzcinski’s stage play about an assortment of American airmen getting through the days in a German POW camp at the twilight of the Second World War.

William Holden stars as the laconic J.J. Sefton, a prisoner whose cynical and mercenary disposition leads his fellow prisoners to conjecture his role as an informant after two men are shot in an attempt to escape the compound. But who exactly is the real spy shuttling inside knowledge to the ever-watchful Oberst von Scherbach (director Otto Preminger in what would become an iconic screen-role)? Only after the film builds towards an explosive crescendo is the answer finally revealed...

A commercial success upon its release in 1953, Stalag 17 retains its reputation as one of the finest World War II films of all-time. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to continue its association with the work of the eminently versatile Billy Wilder with this edition of Stalag 17, appearing here for the first time on Blu-ray in the UK.

Listen Up Philip (2014) - UK Theater Release On 05 June

[For immediate release] Eureka! Entertainment have announced the UK theatrical release of LISTEN UP PHILIP. Following up his critically acclaimed THE COLOR WHEEL, Alex Ross Perry scripts a complex, intimate and highly idiosyncratic comedy filled with New Yorkers living their lives somewhere between individuality and isolation. Jason Schwartzman leads an impressive cast including Elisabeth Moss, Krysten Ritter and Jonathan Pryce, balancing Perry’s quick-witted dialogue and their characters’ painful, personal truths. With narration by Eric Bogosian, we switch perspectives as seasons and attitudes change, offering a literary look into the lives of these individuals and the triumph of reality over the human spirit.

Anger rages in Philip (Jason Schwartzman) as he awaits the publication of his sure-to-succeed second novel. End Of Days, Inc. (2015) - Distribution Rights For North America And Canada Announced

Indiecan Entertainment Acquires END OF DAYS, INC.by director Jennifer Liao and screenwriter Christina Ray

Toronto, Canada – May 11, 2015 – Indiecan Entertainment has acquired the Canadian and US distribution rights to END OF DAYS, INC., a darkly comic feature film with a supernatural spin marking Jennifer Liao’s feature directorial debut, which recently premiered at the USA Film Festival in Dallas, Texas.

The ensemble film, written by Christina Ray (Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning), stars Mark O’Brien (Republic of Doyle), Carolyne Maraghi (Picture Day), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim’s Convenience), Janet Porter (The Listener), Anna Ferguson (Heartland), Yulia Petrauskas (Nikita), and Paulino Nunes (The Strain) as Mr. Godfrey.

The creative team also includes director of photography Benjamin Lichty (How To Change The World), production designer David Orin Charles (Meatballs), editor John Nicholls (Make It Pop), and costume designer Jenn Burton (Skating to New York). END OF DAYS, INC. was produced by Sandy Kellerman and Jennifer Liao, with financial support from Telefilm Canada.

“This is a highly original and entertaining film with a distinctive style that also happens to have been written, directed, and produced by female filmmakers,” says Indiecan Entertainment’s Avi Federgreen. “It’s a unique and exciting addition to Indiecan’s slate.”

The acquisition presents a reunion of sorts, as Liao was the producer of a previous Indiecan title, Sex After Kids. “I know firsthand how tireless Avi is in championing Canadian independent films and their filmmakers. We’re in great hands and we look forward to getting to work bringing END OF DAYS, INC. to audiences across North America,” Liao adds.

END OF DAYS, INC. puts a supernatural spin on a workplace shutdown to darkly comic and chilling effect. It's the last day of business before Godfrey Global Inventory shuts down for good, and the enigmatic Mr. Godfrey (Nunes) and his officious sister Esther (Ferguson) invite the company's downtrodden staff– Jason (O’Brien), Janet (Maraghi), Mort (Lee), and Misty (Porter) –to a farewell party where they are to receive their final paycheques. Instead, they are bribed into working one last night, wherein they discover that processing the last of their “inventory” may lead to cataclysmic consequences.

END OF DAYS, INC.’s trailer launches today, and the film is expected to hit theatres in early 2016 after its run on the festival circuit.

[For immediate release] Eureka! Entertainment have announced the home video release of LIFE OF RILEY, the final film by master filmmaker Alain Resnais (Night and Fog, Hiroshima mon amour, Last Year at Marienbad) featuring a cast of some of Resnais's most frequent collaborators and powerhouses of French cinema and stage, and based on a work by the great English playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn. Following the recent UK theatrical campaign, Eureka Entertainment will be releasing LIFE OF RILEY in a Dual Format (Blu-ray & DVD) edition as part of their award winning The Masters of Cinema Series on25 May 2015.

LIFE OF RILEY Original UK Theatrical Trailer https://youtu.be/BVMEZMsVBM4
Available to pre-order from Amazon http://amzn.to/19p12y6

SYNOPSIS:
Premièred at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival mere weeks before its director's sudden death at 92, the final film by master filmmaker Alain Resnais (Hiroshima mon amour, Last Year at Marienbad, Muriel, Mélo,Providence) marks his third adaptation, penned by Laurent Herbiet and Alex Reval, of a work by the English playwright Alan Ayckbourn (following Smoking / No Smoking and or Private Fears in Public Places).

When the eponymous George Riley, never seen on-screen, discovers he's been diagnosed with a terminal illness, a circle of friends (played by such powerhouses as Sabine Azéma, André Dussollier, andHippolyte Girardot), rally and spur him to take part in a play (another Ayckbourn work: Relatively Speaking) with the hope of enriching his final months. Soon after, however, George regains his life-force with full verve, and reattracts the women in his group, threatening their own domestic stability.

With hyper-stylised sets nominally located in a fantastical Yorkshire; scene changes announced by cartoons by the French illustrator Blutch; and even an animatronic mole, which critic Cristina Álvarez López describes in her accompanying essay as "not just a merciless metaphor of George winning over death and returning victoriously to life, not only a sharp comment on the general, patronising attitude toward those who are ill [but] also the best example of how fearlessly Resnais approaches the issues of life and death: as a matter of serious playfulness, of charged lightness." It is that charged lightness, ever-present throughout Resnais's body of work, that makes Life of Riley (Aimer, boire et chanter, or To Love, Drink, and Sing) such a thrilling testament. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to release Alain Resnais's (unintentional) swan song in a Dual Format special edition.

SPECIAL FEATURES featuring:
  • 1080p presentation of the film on the Blu-ray
  • New and exclusive video interview about the film with critic and scholar Geoffrey O'Brien
  • Original theatrical trailer

PRESS:

"Artfully exposing cinema's debt to theatricality, Alain Resnais's impeccably designed take on Alan Ayckbourn's stage study of the secrets and half-truths destabilising a Yorkshire amdram company affords a final opportunity to see a master at work. A mischievously melancholic delight. ★★★★" - David Parkinson, Empire

"charming, delicately performed and unexpectedly poignant ★★★★" - Allan Hunter, Daily Express

Two For The Road (1967) - Release Announced

Eureka! Entertainment have announced the release of TWO FOR THE ROAD, Stanley Donen's popular 1960s romantic comedy-cum-road movie chronicling the ups and downs of a marriage, starring Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn star as the Wallaces, a couple who have been together with varying degrees of satisfaction for the last 12 years. Featuring a score by Henry Mancini, the film will be released on Blu-ray for the first time anywhere in the world in a Dual Format (Blu-ray and DVD edition) as part of the Masters of Cinema Series on 19 January 2015.

TWO FOR THE ROAD Original Theatrical Trailer http://youtu.be/xRlJJk9eEY4

Available to pre-order from Amazon http://amzn.to/1vPEXQ8

SYNOPSIS:
One of the great films by Stanley Donen (Singin' in the Rain, Charade) after the studio era had come to a close, Two for the Road was a break-off with the old system, one which allowed Donen to further stretch his art, aided by screenwriter Frederic Raphael (Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut), in this tale of a couple voluntarily stretching themselves through the long period of their relationship.

Portrayed in fragments that span the couple's time together in marriage, Two for the Road runs the course of a relationship (between Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney) that finds a circumstantial come-together escalate into newlywed-status and, through a series of travails, into the serious situation of bearing a daughter. The disturbance of marriage, and/or life, is chronicled from here on.

After so many studio-system smash-hits, Two for the Road marked a reckoning for director Donen — which went on to influence directors like Jacques Rivette for its portrayal of a couple in interaction and its keen sense of duration across the length of their time together. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present Stanley Donen's Two for the Road for the first time on Blu-ray in a Dual Format edition.

SPECIAL DUAL FORMAT (BLU-RAY + DVD) EDITION:
  • New 1080p presentation of the film (on Blu-ray) in its original aspect ratio
  • Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • 36-PAGE BOOKLET featuring writing on the film and more!
